North Shore Readers and Writers Festival
November 4 – 11, 2021
The North Shore Readers and Writers Festival is a biennial event that locates, celebrates, and fosters the literary arts and engagement with the written word.
This event is hosted in partnership with Drury Lane Bookstore and the Grand Marais Public Library.
In 2021 the Festival will become a Fantastic NonFest! Meaning, while we are not planning programming for large, in-person gatherings just yet, we have crafted two educational tracks for writers of all levels to learn from seasoned, published Minnestoa authors. We anticipate hosting classes in person.
Classes are 2 – 4 days in length and follow either a poetry or a hybrid track. Participants can opt to follow one of the two specific tracks or select from either track to build out their NonFest experience.
Poetry Track
James Cihlar | A Poem’s Progress: Ways to Get from One Line to the Next
Joyce Sutphen | Memory and Poetry
Sun Yung Shin | Poetry and History
Hybrid Track
Diane Wilson | Telling True Stories: Memoir to Novel
Kathryn Savage | Elements of Creative Nonfiction and Memoir
Scott Carpenter | Fiction and Self in Short

“It was an incredible experience. We met so many warm, down-to-earth people. The 2021 festival is already on our calendar.”
“The North Shore Readers and Writers Festival is one of my favorite events in our area. It’s stimulating, fun, challenging and educational. My goodness—what avid reader or writer could pass that up?”
