The Art Colony provides artists with independent work space in professional studios set on Minnesota’s North Shore. An environment of creative freedom supports the process and development of new works, allowing for a combination of aesthetic inquiry, creative risk-taking, experimentation, and artistic development.

Studios available for residencies include our Ceramics Studio, Eco-friendly Printmaking Studio, Founders Hall Multi-discipline Studio, and the Pill Box Multi-discipline Studio.
Lodging is available in the Art Colony guest suite located at its 120 Studio Building. The guest suite includes three private bedrooms, each with a double bed, plus a shared kitchenette, bathroom, and common space. The guest suite requires climbing a flight of stairs. Upon request, we do have a separate ADA-compliant guest room with a twin bed and an ADA-compliant bathroom with access to a common kitchen area that is at ground level and does not require the use of stairs.
Lodging fee is $25 / night plus a one-time $50 cleaning fee.
Permanent, year-round residents of Cook County, Minnesota or eligible for a 10% discount on residency fees. Please specify your eligibility when applying.
Grant Funded Residencies
For those applying for a grant that requires a commitment from an organization in advance, note that the Art Colony selects a small number of artists to partner with in this way and advanced consent is required. Additional fees will apply for administration and marketing.
